First off, EsoTalk is easily one of the best, most straight forward and customizable forum boards I have ever had the pleasure of playing around with. I love the straight forward coding, directory layout(s), javascript implementation, and pretty much everything else. I also really enjoy the quick load times and debug options that are inbuilt into the software.
However, saying it is perfect would be a lie, just like saying any other open-source software is. Here are the problems I've run into:
- Select browsers (in my case, Firefox) do not support whatever script is used on /conversation/start. It just shows a blank page.
- Page Refresh bug (which was fixed here), which only allowed the access of pages through clicking the linked paths.
- Lack of basic options on the Administration Panel (E.G. Further configuration without having to access config file, Logging, etc.).
And last and MOST IMPORTANT:
- There are not enough people in the EsoTalk development community.
This software deserves a lot more attention, modifications, plugins, and so forth that it is receiving right now. I urge everyone who reads this to try and push the boundaries a little further so we can look forward to a much brighter future for esotalk.
Thanks again to the esotalk developers and community.. I am truly happy using EsoTalk on my website right now!
